Giles Thurston – Technical Manager
Giles has been with Opportunity Links for over five years. During the first two years, Giles combined his role in the ICT team with that of ChildcareLink Programme Manager, working closely with the DfES Sure Start Unit, ensuring the successful delivery of this national programme. After taking a year out to go mountaineering around the globe, Giles returned to Opportunity Links and is now our Technical Manager.
He has over twelve years ICT experience covering a wide range of skills, including project management and technical delivery of both web and desktop based ICT solutions. He is a strong believer in taking a user centered approach to projects and has been delivering web based solutions to local and central government for the last seven years.
Prior to joining Opportunity Links, Giles worked as a Senior Consultant for a number of UK and European IT Consultancy companies, delivering a variety of technical solutions across multiple market sectors, including local government.
Q & A’s
1) How would you change the world?
At the risk of sounding like a Miss World contestant, it has to be peace and prosperity to all.
2) Who would like to have a pint with?
Well at the moment, the Arsenal player who just broke his leg so we could share horror stories about our similar injuries, however he is a) a professional sportsman and b) dosed up on pain killers, so probably won’t want a pint, so it might be a bit dull. In that case I would probably have to say my Grandfather, as there are so many things I would like to talk to him about which I haven’t had the chance to over the last 10 years.
3) What would you do for a million pounds?
Buy and run a farm, yes I am really Farmer Giles. My family comes from an agricultural background and some of my happiest memories were when I used to work on farms, especially during the summer.
