Technical Requirements

As evince is a fully browser based application, there are minimal technical requirements to running evince.  In fact this was one of our design requirements.

In order to run evince you need to following machine configuration:

• Windows XP or later
• Internet Explorer 6 SP1 or later (including latest Microsoft updates). Recommend Internet Explorer 7.
• Javascript enabled in the browser
• 512Mb Ram
• 1024 x 768 minimum screen resolution

The following is also useful, although not essential:

• Adobe Acrobat Reader
• Ability to install ActiveX controls to run the XStandard HTML editor and Dynamic Reports Viewer 

The reports designer for evince is a desktop based installation and runs outside of the browser, if you wish to design reports then you will need to be able to run an installation script on your PC.  We provide this script as a download from evince and it is a one click install. Please note: If you use a proxy that requires authentication you will need to configure proxy bypass to use this feature. Support for proxy authentication is planned for a future release

Finally, as evince is web based, you will need a high speed broadband internet connection to make the most of the application.  For those users currently accessing the hosted version of the national system, this is sufficient.  For those that are not, our recommended technical specifications is the greater of 256k available bandwidth or 64 KBps available bandwidth per required user.
